Now that we’ve talked about the pros and cons of gold guides that we’ve just talked about, Here’s my review of the Warcraft Tycoon’s Handbook, one of the most popular and long-lived gold guides on the market.

This guide is a 150+ page collection of tricks, techniques, and secrets used by the author, Steven Rice, to make an average of 2,000 gold per day in WoW. Steven’s sticking by his claim that he inherited his original secrets from a filthy-rich former Guild Master, but wherever they came from originally, Steven’s been updating them continuously since 2005! He’s serious about getting gold, and it shows in the Handbook.

As the game changes, or new techniques become known, Steven updates the guide, and provides the information in the Warcraft Tycoon’s Members Area.

The Handbook definitely isn’t a ‘one-trick pony.’ It covers a wide variety of ways to get gold, from getting the most out of each profession, to farming Eternals, to high-level questing and grinding, to profiting big-time at the Auction House. You don’t have to worry about getting bored while you’re earning gold.

Even more interesting is the fact that with these techniques you have to spend very little time working at it to raise impressive amounts of gold. Most of these techniques fit into your normal gaming routines, or require only a few minutes at a time dedicated to getting gold.

Another great thing about this Handbook is the way that it offers something for every level of gamer. Some guides focus primarily on information for characters that are already at Level 80, but the Warcraft Tycoon’s Handbook is useful no matter what level your character is at. Of course, low-level characters aren’t going to be able to generate gold as fast as higher-level ones can, but whatever the level you’re interested in, you’ll accumulate gold a lot faster if you do what Steve suggest.

Is the Warcraft Tycoon’s Handbook perfect? No, of course not. I may be biased as I come from the book publishing industry, but I think the could have used a little more editing. There are a few typos, and in places the fonts used can be hard to read. In addition, the main Handbook and the bonus books (more about them in a minute) could have been bundled together a little nicer.

But those flaws are all about style. When it comes to substance, the Warcraft Tycoon’s Handbook is solid. There’s plenty of detailed information, with pictures of relevant items or maps as needed. You’ll surely find lots of practical ways for your character, regardless of class or level, to quickly earn far more gold than they’ve ever earned before.

As if the material in the Handbook itself wasn’t enough, Steve gives you three bonus guides to go with it:
